The code is beta – it’s tested with only one phone (HTC Desire) and very few UPnP devices. Because I need 8 channels, my new PC will be based on the 6950X, will have a GTX 1080 Ti, and will probably be watercooled.Minimserver hqplayer. I am probably one of the more ambitious HQPlayer users around. But then, I AM running 8 channels of convolution with upsampling to DSD256 on each channel. The PC I own is a 6700K with 16GB of RAM, but with no CUDA enabled video card. Those guys have the kind of server you need. Also look where using the T+A DAC with upsampling to DSD 512 from HQP. At least a 6700 without power saving features. There's an extremely long detailed thread of computeraudiophile devoted to the topic of building an HQP server. Basiacally, you need 16 GB of RAM and one of the very fastest i7 chips. The other prebuilt model I like is the little compact from Falcon Northwest, but that is getting up there in price.Īt least looking at those two will tell you what you need to build one on your own.

Unless you really want to build it yourself, look at the i7 model from Small Green Computer designed to do heavy duty upsampling. Not knowing how to use the upsampling settings I am wondering if I could have gotten better performance out of it.īit of a vague and rambling question I know but any thoughts would be appreciated. I didn't get a chance to play too much with it unfortunately but in the short time I used it I did think the sound quality was a tad better than the Squeezebox. I did some tests on my laptop running the 30 day trial of HQPlayer It has run out now. Is there any remote control that allows me to run HQPlayer on my PC and control it using an Android app'? Can a laptop with I7, 16Gb of RAM and an SSD hard drive do an OK job with HQplayer? Does the player scale back its performance on lower spec'ed machines?ģ. Do you think I'll get an increase in sound quality with HQPlayer if I am not using the upsampling feature (to go from low sample rates up to DSD for example)?Ģ. Now I've read some comments above about the sort of spec's that some people are considering to run HQplayer "flat out". Since I am using a Yellowtec USB to SPDIF converter, I have to choose the 192khz option. The squeezebox player has DSD / DXD plugins so it can run those formats for use DOP or downconvert to 192khz. The unit also allows you to run Squeezebox Server though in this case, it does run on the machine directly. The SMS200 is designed to run with HQplayer but it doesn't run it on the hardware, rather it used the grunt from your PC and streams it to the SMS200. It is a reasonably low powered solution (compared to a PC based one) as it has the lower powered CPU, 2Gb of RAM and no video card (it is headless). Now I'm guessing you guys will be in some way familiar with the SMS200. OK, a few questions to you guys about using HQplayer with the SOTM SMS200 which is a linux based music streamer with an Atom chipset.
